I have been an active outdoor guy for all my life. And starting in my early teens I started to look to eye-wear for not only the 'cool factor' but also the function factor. Being an avid snowboarder, back packer, motorcycle rider, and wakeboarder meant keeping my eyes shielded from the sun and elements became hugely important to me. Over the years I have tried them all, Oakley, Smith, Arnette, Dragons, Spy, etc... Hands down Spy have been above all others my 'go to' goggles and sunglasses for many years. I currently own two pairs of Spy goggles (two older pairs of Scoop Snowboarding goggles that are still rockin' and shockin') and six pairs of Spy sunglasses (Nomad, Scoop, M2, Espada, Wilshire, and Quanta).
The Quanta is my most recent purchase and I have to say they are everything an active outdoor person would want in a pair of sunglasses.

First about the fit: The overall shape is by far the best I have worn in years. They fit very close to the face, keeping peripheral light at bay. Yet not rubbing on your face in irritating places (cheekbones, temples, eyebrows, etc . . .) And they do this while having a very large viewing area allowing plenty of peripheral vision. The lenses are medium in size. I've had glasses with larger (Spy Scoop & Wilshire, and Smith Wingnuts) and some with smaller (Spy M2 & Espada , Arnette Catfish). The curve of the ear piece is enough to ensure a nice fit but not so much that you can't slip them on without pulling the ear pieces apart to put them on (which over time usually causes breakage i.e. Dragon Mace). The ear pieces are also covered in a soft rubber along the back half which grips the hair and head nicely helping to keep them in place even through extreme motions and the most rapid head jerks. Along with the rubber on the ear pieces the nose piece is made from the same rubber. Unlike many other 'sport' glasses which either only utilize the plastic of the lens frame for the nose piece or small rubber inserts into the lens frame, the Quanta has a nice full rubber nose piece mounted inside the lens frame which lends not only to their comfort over long periods of time, but also keeps them firmly in place with minimal, if any, slippage at all (even on a sweaty nose!).

Now the function: Coupling the above listed fitment with the great lens options that you have available (they can easily be changed for a number of different lens colors/finishes) these are super functional, multi-purpose sunglasses. They block the wind extremely well due to the above mentioned close fitment and medium lens size. And you never have to worry about them flying off even if you turn your head to the side or back wards at high speeds. The lenses clean very easily and the glasses come with a nice bag (which has pouches on the outside for carrying different lens sets & cleans the glasses extremely well) and a nice clam shell style semi-hard case.

And last but not least, the look: Well, they look great!! In addition to all my outdoor activities, I wear them for casual and semi-casual events all the time. I have the Translucent Brown with Bronze lenses and they are very clean and classy looking glasses. They can easily be worn with a hat (ball cap or fedora) and don't interfere with the fit of the hat at all.
Overall I would have to say these are by far the best fitting, functioning, and looking sunglasses I have found for the active outdoor person. The only draw back I can see . . . is that I can't personally afford five or six more pairs in different frame colors!!!!

Bought them for cycling - the lenses are very nice... not quite up to the Oakley standard, but no noticeable distortion, and nice clarity. The letdown are the frames: The lines from the molding process are noticeable, the rubber ear and nose pieces are just okay, and the finish on the plastic is just so-so.

Where SPY makes the grade is that they look pretty great. In fact, they look awesome... which might make you a little bit faster. Your call.

      Best Uses

        Comments about Spy Optic QUANTA:

I bought these when they were the NEW style for 2012. I absolutely loved my Matte White with the Polarized Lense, HOWEVER, after wearing them all the time whether it was driving my car, at work, doing work outside, the rubber padding on the sides actually came off. The lenses (even though I took care of them cleaning with only the bag that they tell you to use) have become extremely blurry and scratched up. Pretty much, they only lasted a year!

I tried on almost every brand of sunglasses at the mall and found these to fit and look the best. I do a lot of outdoor activities, including fishing and the polarization works awesome for fishing.

        Comments about Spy Optic QUANTA:

I use the QUANTA's mainly for mountain biking.

The thing I love about the QUANTA's is how great they fit. I also like how the red frame color really stands out as well as the mirrored lenses. All in all I love them.

I bought a black on black pair originally for street cycling and regular use, i LOVED the comfort of them, the clarity and sharpness of the world seen through the lens, and the glare cut factor is huge for me. These are so great i just bought the white/bronze with green spectra as a secondary for mountain biking and snowboarding for nice days, the fact that these are ANSI cert. as well quite tickles my fancy.

Bravo Spy optics, you are my only Optic company as far as sunglasses and goggles are concerned.
        Keep It UP!

If you've ever tried to run a marathon wearing aviator sunglasses, you know the value of eyewear that's suited for specific uses. There's a pair of shades for almost every sport you can think of -- from riding a century or climbing a mountain to sitting around on a beach with a Corona.

these truly are windows for your head.lol These are the chosen ones that i use for everyday jogging around the bay. These are great fitting glasses and are shake proof. There is no need to worry about these flying off your face due to the sleek aerodynamic style of these glasses. The bigger lens also helps for a wider view and the fact that they are polarized helps out when the sun is in your face!!! THese glasses are sleek, aerodynamic and awesome looking.

        Comments about Spy Optic QUANTA:

First things First: I am diehard Spy fan. Yeah, their style is cold [*], but what makes me a believer is their performance. I have many outdoor interests, from road biking, to hiking, to shooting sporting clays. Many weekends, those pursuits happen one after another. While I have several pairs of Spys (HSX, Diablo, and Rivet) my most versatile are my Quanta's with the Commando kit. The rose with blue mirror lenses are perfect for a morning hammerfest on the bike; I'll switch out to grey for an afternoon in the woods. For late evening sporting clays when the light is dimming, I switch to the yellow which gives outstanding clarity for target acquisition. My Quanta's are that rare tool that allows me to adapt to my activity and the conditions on the fly, while looking fly while doing so...viva la SPY!

        Comments about Spy Optic QUANTA:

I have had these shades for a little while now and use them all the time. I was looking for something that wouldn't fall off my head easily cause I have a smaller sized head and these fit well. Looks great also!
