SPY is seeking a strategic and seasoned Marketing Director. This is reports to the CEO and is based at our Carlsbad, California headquarters.


SPY’s Marketing Director must be a motivated and a resourceful team player with exceptional management and communication skills. In addition to managing the Marketing staff, this position is responsible for developing and driving an aggressive strategic marketing growth strategy. 

The Marketing Director is responsible for cooperatively working with the Sales Department to provide insight into SPY’s current customer base, analysis of the consumer landscape and buying habits of various target demographics, presenting overall trends and market directions.

This position must stay extremely aware of the extraordinarily fast-moving youth marketplace and serve as the senior marketing spokesperson for the relationship between the brand, marketing, and its products.

The individual should also be an inspiring leader that can assist in developing a team and culture that is consistent with the SPY Brand.  This position should also be a thought partner to the management team as well as an independent and creative business thinker who possesses a high degree of integrity.

In addition, the successful candidate should be an active participant in the business and creating shareholder value.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following (Other duties may be assigned):

• Establishes marketing goals to ensure share of market and profitability of products and/or services.

• Develops and executes marketing plans and programs, both short and long range, to ensure the profit growth and expansion of company products and/or services.

• Researches, analyzes, and monitors financial, technological, and demographic factors so that market opportunities may be capitalized on and the effects of competitive activity may be minimized.

• Plans and oversees the organization's advertising and promotion activities including print, electronic, and direct mail outlets.

• Works with writers and artists and oversees copywriting, design, layout, pasteup, and production of promotional materials.

• Develops and recommends pricing strategy for the organization which will result in the greatest share of the market over the long run.

• Achieves satisfactory profit/loss ratio and share of market performance in relation to pre-set standards and to general and specific trends within the industry and the economy.

• Ensures effective control of marketing results and that corrective action takes place to be certain that the achievement of marketing objectives are within designated budgets.

• Evaluates market reactions to advertising programs, merchandising policy, and product packaging and formulation to ensure the timely adjustment of marketing strategy and plans to meet changing market and competitive conditions.

• Recommends changes in basic structure and organization of marketing group to ensure the effective fulfillment of objectives assigned to it and provide the flexibility to move swiftly in relation to marketing problems and opportunities.

• Conducts marketing surveys on current and new product concepts.

• Prepares marketing activity reports.

Travel: This position requires domestic travel as well as work on some weekends (will vary on months, seasons and events).


Knowledge and Abilities

• 5 to 7+  years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience at a management level

• Bachelor’s Degree in related field preferred

• Ability to lead a team in a fast paced, deadline oriented department

• Superior written and verbal communication skills

• Must be detail oriented and extremely organized

• Ability to prioritize daily/weekly workload and responsibilities

E-Commerce and Marketing Coordinator

The E-commerce and Marketing Coordinator plays a central role in creating and maintaining the catalog and product mix on SPY’s main sites, as well sites of key digital partners. This position will also be point person for Hookit, in charge of daily management including athlete communication, store management, and leveraging analytics to grow the business. Additionally, the E-commerce and Marketing Coordinator will assist the Brand Activation Manager with events and the marketing team with high-priority projects, as needed. This position is located at our Carlsbad, California headquarters.

Primary Responsibilities (including, but not limited to the following):

• Catalog creation and image gathering—sizing and adjusting images to be web ready for new styles for not only the SPY website, but various other partner sites including key retailers

• Daily management of Hookit, including athlete communications, messaging, resume approvals, order-related issues, and fielding general sponsorship questions outside of FAQ. Leverage site analytics to optimize customer experience, grow online sales and maximize margin

• Daily Management of Support Suite.  Gain an understanding of the art submission process and direct the flow of communication from all departments to the art/creative team.  Ensure info is accurate and complete ticket submission to completion.

• Collaborate with key digital partners on their marketing and visuals.

• Manage and execute marketed sales strategies for key online partners, including sales and promo events, emailer creation, and bolstering relationships with online partners to maximize SPY presence in their communications.

• Perform detailed audit for every product upload on website

• Weekly and monthly merchandising guidance on all sites based on analytics and inventory (best sellers, new product, discontinued product, and most in stock items/styles)

• Works in hand with operations to track long range, and close-in timing of product arrivals, restocks, and holds. This will inform email, ppc, and digital marketing campaigns across all digital outlets.

• Coordinate and send samples to SPY digital agency to shoot (and RA-ing and reconciling them upon return). QAing images from agency

• Collect and organize assets for weekly social communications for retailers

• Ensure all content follows the company’s brand guidelines

• Assist Brand Activation Manager with events, as needed

• Assist marketing team with high-priority projects, as needed



• E-commerce merchandising experience

• Strong Excel skills

• Knowledgeable about action sports and outdoor sports

• Proficient in web-based analytics tools

• Strong Analytical skills

• Ability to work in a fast paced, deadline oriented department

• Fluency in popular social media platforms a plus

• Must be able to provide creative ideas

• Excellent writing and communication skills

• Must possess a happy attitude and excellent customer service skills

Financial Planning & Analysis - Financial Analyst

SPY is seeking a Financial Planning & Analysis- Financial Analyst to help support the overall business and financial planning and budgeting processes for our organization. This position is responsible for preparing monthly, quarterly and annual management reports that compare actual results to budgets and forecasts along with key performance metrics. This position is located at our Carlsbad, California headquarters.  

Job requirements include:

• 3+ years of experience in financial analysis, including excellent analytical skills and a strong proficiency in financial modeling, budgeting, and forecasting. 

• High level of proficiency in Excel and Access. Database experience, VBA, SQL a plus.

• Responsible for the integrity of financial forecast and analysis.

• High standard for integrity required and a strong commitment and devotion to get the job done right the first time.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Be proactive, a self-starter, results-oriented, and a team player.

• Strong process and time management skills.

Accounts Receivable Credit Collections Supervisor

SPY is seeking an Accounts Receivable Credit Collections Supervisor to fill a temporary assignment from approximately 4/6/15 – 7/31/15.  This position is located at our Carlsbad, California headquarters.

Primary Responsibilities (including, but not limited to the following):

 • Oversee A/R department of 4

• Review credit reports to determine payment terms and credit limits

• Contact trade references during the credit review process

• Review credit holds daily to ensure all shippable orders are released

• Work with collectors, independent sales reps, and sales managers to resolve outstanding credit issues

• Review and approve manual credit/debit memos up to a certain limit

• Cross-train and assist with all other A/R positions including cash posting, invoicing, and collections

• Assist with month end processes related to A/R

• Make collection calls as necessary

• Help with customer account reconciliations

• Review A/R reports

• Assist other departments as needed



• Credit and collections supervisory experience required

• Experience with sales related accruals and revenue recognition principle

• Intermediate Excel skills required

• Great Plains experience preferred

SPY Happy Camp - Retail Sales Associate/Key Holder

Part-Time Position (25 hours per week or less)

SPY is seeking a highly motivated, Sales Associate/Key Holder for our new SPY Happy Camp Retail location. This is a Part-Time position (25 hours per week or less) and reports to the Happy Camp Counselor (Manager) and is based at our Encinitas, California retail location.

All SPY Happy Camp staff members are responsible for providing assistance with the activities of the SPY Supply, SPY Lanai, and HAPPY Camp. Each member will uphold the vision and mantra of the SPY Optic brand and of SPY Happy Camp. The staff will always endeavor to provide Super Service and outstanding brand and product knowledge to the customers, clients, and the community. Each Happy Camp staff member will assist in receiving, storing, and issuing products, equipment, and all other items, while working closely with the Happy Camp Counselor (Manager) in the day-to-day operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Possess an up-to-date and thorough understanding of SPY’s Vision and Mission, as well as its brand strategy and modus operandi.

• Possess an up-to-date and thorough knowledge of all SPY products, including licensed products and any other non-SPY products that may be sold at SPY Supply.

• Coordinate training, with the Happy Camp Counselor, of all SPY employees at the SPY Happy Camp. Training existing and new employees to a one, or two-day onboarding experience. Training them on each product category, the Happy Lens, merchandising, and sales.

• Be the personification of Super Service.

• Super Service customers and respond to their comments and complaints with the happiest of dispositions.

• Assist with the opening and closing duties as well as the day-to-day business operations.

• Responsible for the facilities upkeep and management (SPY Supply, SPY Lanai and HAPPY Camp), safety and security, and banking.

• Merchandise and clean displays and POP.

• Maintain and monitor product availability by receiving shipments and overseeing inventories.

• Maintain and organize back stock.

• Assist with the organization of tasks, and that they are completed properly and efficiently.

• Assist with the coordination and organization of events, assuring that participants’ accommodations are met.

• Assist in monitoring event activities to ensure satisfaction of participants and resolve problems that arise.

• Work closely with the Happy Camp Counselor with duties and responsibilities and all others that are assigned.

• Assume the duties and responsibilities of the Happy Camp Counselor in his/her absence.

Warehouse Inventory Control/ Restocking (Forklift Operator)

The Inventory Control / Restocking is responsible for ensuring all pick bins are restocked, inventory movements are completed and the inventory is accurately named and placed in the warehouse. The position reports to the Warehouse Manager and requires constant interaction with key accounts logistic team, along with the other Warehouse team members, and the QC department. This position is located at our Carlsbad, California headquarters.

Primary Responsibilities (including, but not limited to the following):

• Move product from back stock locations to pick bins daily and on an as needed basis throughout the day

• Ensure product moved to back stock locations are accurately moved in the system using the warehouse management system guns

• Ensure QC’d product moved from receiving is marked accurately and moved appropriately in the system

• Run labels for pallet identification

• Assist with cycle counts

• Assist with pulling large key account orders

• Assist with inventory transfers from receiving returns

• Be able to perform other duties as assigned including labeling, order checking and rack organization



• Attention to detail;

• Must be able to stand for a minimum of 8 hours per day

• Good communication skills

• Basic skill level of computer use (email, internet, calendar, excel)

• Ability to operate a forklift/pallet jack & have current forklift certification

• Must be able to lift 35-50 lbs on a regular basis

• GP ERP system skills will be a plus factor
