Fall Fits We Dig

It’s tough to pick our favorite season, but fall style is always a popular topic here at SPY+ — and to celebrate cooler temps, we’re serving up some serious fall ‘fit inspo with noteworthy pieces from brands we love. To complete this list of ideas, we threw our fashionable sunglasses in the mix because our new colors in matte and translucent finishes are pretty dope.

Our eyewear is grounded in a strong style ethos. But it doesn’t just look cool — it makes the world look cool with our HAPPY BOOST™ Lens Tech, tuned to boost your mood, enhance color and contrast, and offer a life-changing visual experience. After all, sunglasses that help you feel better during the shorter days of fall are always a win.

One of the big ideas we’re really digging this season is the way that rigid rules for getting dressed continue to break down. Workwear, utility, and athletic gear can go almost anywhere, especially if you balance the casual elements with something a little more high-key. On the flip side, tailored pieces feel less serious with low-key footwear. Sneakers are a prime example. Other favorite fall style trends are versatile dark denim, slouchy knitwear, and hyper-functional accessories.

SPY+ aims to constantly push the boundaries and build things that support individual expression. Rule-breaking, when used to bust through barriers and make the world a more positive place, is dear to our hearts. It’s in that spirit that we put together our list of fall looks. It’s not a style mandate, it’s a jumping-off point — consider it pure encouragement to find joy in mixing things up in the way that’s truest to you.

A Rugged Attitude: Workwear 2.0

There was a time when workwear didn’t get out beyond the construction site. Then street style brought it into the everyday — and the trend stuck. What keeps the latest options interesting are streamlined cuts, modern fabrics, and fun colors.

We’re excited about the New West theme over at Brixton, featuring deft pairings of modern workwear, classic flannel shirts in non-scratchy options, proper cowboy hats, and crisp jeans. We’re also partial to Nudie’s selvage denim, especially Gritty Jackson. To complete this look, just pop on our Cedros shades in translucent dark green + some badass handcrafted western boots, and you’re good to go.

Made for Action: Retro Sport with an Edge

Everything old is new again, especially when it comes to ‘80s-inspired tennis sneakers. (Um, we’ve kind of got a sneaker problem, so just calling out a single pair that we’re into is a bit misleading. LOL) Still, Van’s Lowland Comfycush JMP Shoe is a sneak that exemplifies the throwback trend.

Keep your head-to-toe look laid back with baggy tapered cargoes, also from Van’s, and an Essentials hoodie from Fear of God. Or get a little eclectic with a vintage, big-shouldered jacket that would make David Byrne proud. Are we making sense yet? Finish it off with the Rebar ANSI – this ever-popular style just dropped in matte sand.

Casual Utility: Updated Old-School Gets Colorful

Utilitarian staples like the garage jacket have been popular for decades, but what makes it fresh is a pairing of bold colors. Try a Dickies Eisenhower Jacket in a deep shade of teal with some colorful cords. Ground it with a neutral ankle boot from Clarks and statement-making Cyrus shades with tortoiseshell frames. The look combines all of our favorite retro references in a way that feels decidedly of the moment. You can dial the color contrasts up or down. If you prefer neutrals, just take a few notes and keep it understated in shades of gray, white, navy, or black.

Uptown Down: Layered Knits x Slouchy Shapes

While sunglasses are often considered to be the finishing touch, there are times when a great pair of specs can serve as your starting point for an entire outfit. With their oversized frames and flared temple tips, our new Dessa style makes a big impact in an understated way. Dessa’s relaxed attitude is perfectly in sync with all of the easygoing knits popping up this fall, including new arrivals over at Madewell. What you’ll notice is how knitwear is really coming into its own through playful styling: a sweater casually draped over shoulders, an oversized beanie pulled way back on the head. It’s all about cool sophistication.

Echoing the trends in menswear, trainers are making big moves here, too. We’re loving these New Balance Unisex 9060 sneakers in Slate Grey Angora. And if you want to step things up, Gucci loafers are always a good idea. Add a sporty edge with a cozy baseball cap from the GAP.

Classic Detour: An Unexpected Statement Piece (or Two)

Last but certainly not least, we want to give a little shout-out to a look that's definitely geared to party time — think Seismic Dance Event in Austin or whatever your local equivalent is. It’s one part heritage with Red Wing Chukkas, seriously good denim, and a wool logger cap and one part après-ski without the actual ski. Where this ensemble takes a slightly raver detour is with an oversized faux-fur bomber and our Flynn 50-50s. (Bonus points for mirror lenses.) Tongue-in-cheek? Hell, yes. But in the very best possible way. You just have to own it.

Have fun out there,
